AmeriCorps: Are You Up to the Challenge?

Want to make new friends, develop new skills, and change the world at the same time? If so, do what 250,000 other Americans have done - join AmeriCorps!

Since 1994, AmeriCorps has given Americans opportunities to address educational, public safety, environmental, and human service needs in their communities. The N.C. Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service currently administers 15 AmeriCorps programs throughout the state.

AmeriCorps participants - called "members" - provide a wide variety of services in North Carolina. They tutor and mentor students, serve in child-care centers, build houses for low-income homeowners, provide immigrants with interpretation and translation services, lead environmental projects, and assist individuals with disabilities.

In exchange for one year of service, you'll get a monthly stipend and an educational award to go back to school or repay student loans. More importantly, you'll make a difference in the lives of others.

Full-time and part-time opportunities are available across North Carolina, so call (800) 820-GIVE (4483) or (919) 715-3470 (TTY number- 877-877-1765) today. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Visit NC Programs to view a list of programs in North Carolina administered by the Commission. For a list of AmeriCorps VISTA opportunities in North Carolina, please visit VISTA opportunities or call the Corporation for National and Community Service State Office in Raleigh at (919) 856-4731.
