AmeriCorps: How to Apply
Persons interested in joining one of
the 11 AmeriCorps programs administered by the N.C. Commission on Volunteerism
and Community Service should contact the director(s) of the program(s)
to which they want to apply. The directors can send you an application
and arrange an interview. Click for a list of programs
(which includes the directors' contact information).
Program directors typically do most
of their recruiting in the spring and summer. Programs begin in late
summer or early fall.
Full-time AmeriCorps participants -
called "members" - provide 1,700 hours of service over the
course of one year. Part-time members serve 900 hours. Full- and part-time
members receive a monthly living stipend during their terms of service.
Upon completing the required number of hours, full- and part-time members
also receive an educational award to repay student loans or pay for
college, graduate school or vocational training.
In addition, full-time members receive
health insurance and child-care coverage during their terms of service.
These benefits are not available to part-time members.
