CITIZEN CORPS IS IN NORTH CAROLINA!

In a June 4th, 2002 Press Release, Governor Easley said, "The goal of Citizen Corps will be to have people of all ages participate in making their communities safer, stronger and better prepared for preventing and handling threats of terrorism, crime and disasters of all kinds."

Citizen Corps in North Carolina is being promoted by local Citizen Corps Councils. The councils are groups of local leaders who encourage the year-round involvement of people in Citizen Corps programs. They also expand opportunities in other volunteer programs that are focused on personal and community safety, public health, disaster preparedness and response.

Because every community is different, cities and counties in North Carolina are creating Citizen Corps Councils of their own design- bringing together first reponders, volunteer organizations, law enforcement agencies, local elected officials, hospitals and schools.
