What is Service-Learning?
Service-learning is a method by which students learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized service experiences that: meet community needs; are coordinated in collaboration with school and community; help foster civic responsibility; are integrated into academic curriculum; provide structured time for participants to reflect on the experience.

Learn and Serve
Learn and Serve America is a federal grants program that supports service learning programs in schools and community organizations that engage youth in addressing education, public safety, environmental and other human needs. The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) administers the Learn and Serve K-12 School-Based program in North Carolina.
